Jakarta Supports Wayang Orang Bharata Performance to Celebrate its 50th Anniversary

The Jakarta Culture Agency supports various arts and cultural activities in Jakarta. One of them is the Wayang Orang Bharata (human puppet) Performance with the play "Gatutkaca". The performance initiated by the Paguyuban Wayang Orang Bharata (WOB) is held to celebrate its 50th anniversary on July 5, 2022.

Hopefully, it can give a positive impression on public figures and the enthusiasm of cultural arts actors

According to Iwan Henry Wardhana, Agency Head of Jakarta Culture, the agency's support was by bridging the WOB Building revitalization plan which would collaborate with stakeholders.

"We are collaborating with stakeholders who will cover the revitalization of WOB. Hopefully, it can give a positive impression on public figures and the enthusiasm of cultural arts actors," he expressed, in Jakarta, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Tuesday (7/5).

As for the information, the Paguyuban WOB, which was established on July 5, 1972, already houses more than a hundred dancers, musicians, and singers who for several generations have been active in the traditional art scene in Jakarta by presenting stage puppet arts.

“It has been 50 years since the WOB group has come to be one of the entertainment destinations in Jakarta for several generations. Consistently, they remain the center of gatherings of people who are loyal to preserving wayang orang performances with famous plays such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata," explained Paguyuban WOB Chairman Teguh Kenthus Ampiranto.

He added it was not easy for an art group to present traditional spectacles while maintaining their existence amidst the hustle and bustle of popular pop culture in a big city like Jakarta.

"It's also an honor, we can present representatives from 9 generations," he added.

As for the information, the WOB Karya Anak Panggung Performance with the play "Gatutkaca" and titled "Longgengmu is Harapanku, Leastarimu adalah Tanggung Jawabku is the result of a collaboration between the Culture Agency, PT Bank DKI, PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, and Perumda Pembangunan Sarana Jaya.

It is planned to present the Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan; Food Station President Director; Perumda Pembangunan Sarana Jaya President Director; Presidential Military Secretariat Bureau Head; TMII Executive Vice President; PDIP Secretary General Dito Mahendra; Jaya Suprana; Kondang Sutrisno; Agung Kuswandono; and representatives of the Wayang Orang Bharata generation.
